Arpeggio

Arpeggio is a term used when you play notes in a chord one by one rather than all together at the same time. It is a very common technique used in rhythm guitar playing. It is extremely important that all the notes ring out and in order for you to be able to do that, you need to make sure that your left hand fingers are only touching the strings that they are supposed to be holding down. Use your fingertips! Check out this exercise. Click on it for a bigger image.

Here is another example of what you can do with same chord progression.

You can come up with your own variation of which strings to pick in what order as long as you are not playing too many or too few notes.
